“Days. What are days for? Days are where we live. Where can we live, but days?”

These are lines from a poem by Philip Larkin that we studied in Year 11 with Mrs Miller. These photos made me think of it.

The photo below was taken on the lawn outside the Yellow Building in about in 1975. It is me, Topsy Stitz and Helen Campbell, with our English teacher, Mrs Myers. We look so wary and anxious, Mrs Myers so optimistic and girlish.

The photo at the top was taken in 2011 at the launch of my novel “The Golden Day”, generously launched by Old Girl Julie McCrossin. Me, Topsy and Helen again, grown women, looking considerably more relaxed. Have we changed? What has happened to us? I suppose it must be days. Where can we live but days?
